Beginning of November Updates

In this post you will find information for course updates, fall conferences, and reviewing expectations as we start quarter 2.

Course Updates

ELA:

Students should be done with the Unit 2 Why Folder. They are also completing a compare and contrast using a photosynthesis lab they did during science. We will begin the Unit 2 Learn Folder next week. On Monday, we will be walking through the roadmap so students are aware of assignments that should be completed and when. Each student will receive a paper copy of the roadmap, as well as a digital version available through Schoology. We will also be completing a Book Tasting for literature circles. This will allow students to look at the options for the books and rank their top 3. I will be encouraging students to choose books based on their reading levels and interests, rather than what their friends are choosing.

Math 7:
Students are working on their Learn folder for Unit 4 on equivalent expressions and solving equations. Below is the roadmap created to help them understand what to work on next when they finish an assignment. By the end of the week, all learners should be finished with Checkpoint 1 content (Learning Targets 1 & 2 below) and working their way through the material for Checkpoint 2 (Learning Targets 3 & 4 below)

Advanced Math 7:
Students are working on their Learn folder for Unit 4 on triangles and angle relationships. Students are asked to bring in their own pair of headphones to have the opportunity to listen to pre-recorded lesson videos and other helpful YouTube videos that can clarify more challenging concepts. If your learner cannot provide these on their own, please reach out to Ms. Bruer (mbruer@west-fargo.k12.nd.us). By the end of the week, all learners should have Checkpoint 2 completed.

Science:
Students are continuing to work through the processes and results from the cell cycle, mitosis, and meiosis. Below is the learning playlist for this unit for students to use in tracking what tasks need to be accomplished and what each requires. Teacher-pace is completing Check #1 for this unit by today, November 3rd The soft deadline for this unit is Tuesday, November 21sthowever, the majority of students will be completing this unit by the end of next week and working towards a level 4 opportunity.

Social Studies:
Learners will be finishing up their Articles of Confederation Learn Folder with a Quiz (many finished last Friday). We will be getting into the creation of the Constitution of the United States through our Video Activities. I plan on going through these activities with the learners in a whole-class setting as there is ton of information and explanation that will need to take place and feel by us going through it together, it will be more beneficial to our understanding of the reasons for the Constitution. The two main standards that will be covered in this Unit are Connections and Impact are to: Describe the importance of the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights, then and now and Explain the relationship of checks and balances among the three branches of government. For Multiple Perspectives, the learning target is: Explain the key viewpoints expressed at the Constitutional Convention, such as Federalists vs. Anti-Federalists, large states vs. small states, slave states vs. Free states.

Fall Conferences
All Team Legacy learners and stakeholders are welcome to attend our Fall Conference Open House scheduled for Tuesday, November  7th, from 4:00-8:00 pm. All core class team members will be available to provide any feedback, answer questions, or address concerns during this time. Encore teachers and case managers will also be available for the same purpose.

If you cannot attend this event and have questions or would like further information, please do not hesitate to reach out via email.
