September Focus: Responsibility

This month, Heritage is focusing on responsibility for our learners and educators. As 7th-grade Team Legacy educators, we are attempting to move mountains for our students and ensure they are supported in meeting all the expectations they are held to throughout their school day. We also wanted to communicate that we know not every learner is the same, but we are ready to help them grow from wherever they are starting in their 7th grade year as a Hawk!

Team Legacy educators have been working to ensure equity, opportunity, and transparency are at the forefront, so here are ways that each of us is attempting to keep our 7th-grader learners on pace and given the best chance of mastering course learning goals:

  • Verbal check-ins during Advisory on Mondays to have organization as the focal point to start the week.
  • Utilizing the Academic Room for learners who are trending in missing work, needing academic support, or using it as a quiet space to get work accomplished.
  • Pulling learners during Hawk Time to do one-on-one checking-in regarding academic or behavior concerns.
  • Checking-in with learners that are trending in missing work during class work time if needed.
  • Communicating concerns with counselors to identify needs, investigate past supports that have been successful, and add additional support for the learner/educator.
  • Educator emails regarding changes in CCR scores for each class.
  • Learner emails home during HT on Friday to communicate missing work that needs to be completed to extend support and have the best chance to be on-track when they return the following week.
  • Connecting individual students who need additional support by utilizing our MTSS-A coach, Mrs. Heinze. More communication to these individual families coming soon.
  • Last, we will hand out academic planners on Monday (September 16th) to all Team Legacy learners to start utilizing as a tier 1 intervention.
We are hoping that our 7th-graders will start using these with our guidance and frequent check-ins as a tool for organization, communication with parents/guardians, and building soft skills surrounding this month's focus: responsibility.

Finally, there will be a 7th-grade whole-group meeting on Tuesday, September 17th, for our administration to communicate expectations on work completion for courses, identify how they are working with educators to ensure supports are in-place for those needing assistance, and be transparent on their approach when working with learners showcasing academic dishonesty.
