End of Quarter 1 Updates

The end of quarter 1 is looming! We wanted to ensure all students and families are informed regarding the end of the quarter deadline this Friday, October 25th. It is time to get all the coursework in, show project conferencing scheduled, and ensure that all questions are answered before Friday's deadline.

ELA:
Students are working on their Show Folders. There are two assignments that must be completed by the end of the day on Friday, October 25th.
  • One – Pager Project
    • Students will choose one of the 9/11 memorials to research and complete a creative project. There are examples in Schoology as well as a directions page that includes a list of things to include and a rubric.
  • 4 Paragraph Informative Essay
    • Students are allowed to choose a topic that interests them. They are asked to use the Heritage Library Databases to find two credible resources and complete a synthesis notes page. Once this is completed, they write their rough drafts of paragraphs on the graphic organizer provided in class. The final draft should be typed in the Schoology assignment.

We will be beginning unit 2 next Monday, October 28th. This unit will include a claim, evidence, reasoning paragraph writing, and participating in a book circle. Students will be a part of a book tasting on Wednesday, to choose their top three book choices from the list below:

This is an assignment introduced today that pulls from the data they collected over the past 2-3 weeks. Students are wrapping up the second lesson of our second unit, focusing on the causes of the revolution. Currently, we are learning more about the Stamp, Quartering, and Townshend Acts. Later this week, learners will research more about how colonists rebelled, specifically, The Boston Tea Party and The Boston Massacre. Once all research is finished, they will complete a show project that tasks them with creating a "podcast" discussing these events through the eyes of a colonist.
