Planners
Team Legacy learners will continue to work through time management skills, building self-efficacy, and ensuring they are on track with their learning progression. Please ask them about this in the upcoming weeks if you are curious to see how your learner is utilizing this resource!
Science Student Teacher
Our very own science student teacher, Savannah, will officially be taking over the classroom this week for the remainder of November! Below, you will find an introduction letter from her.
Hi Team Legacy Families!
My name is Savannah Christenson (Ms.
Savannah). I am the student teacher in your learner’s Life Science class. I
attend North Dakota State University, pursuing degrees in Biological Sciences
and Education. I graduate this December. I have been building relationships
with our learners since the beginning of the year, and I will complete my
student teaching assignment on December 6th. I wanted to introduce myself to
you formally because I am increasing my involvement moving into Quarter 2. I am
looking forward to having a more active role in the course!
In Quarter 2, learners will begin with the
Cell Division unit, and then the Genetics unit will follow. Sally Richardson
(the classroom educator) and I will be working together on content and
assignments, facilitating student learning, and leading class time.
Sally will continue to be a primary point of
contact. Please send any questions or concerns to her. Thank you for welcoming
me to this team. I am honored to be able to work with your learners each and
every day!
Savannah Christenson
Core Course Updates
ELA
Students are beginning the Learn Folder for Unit 2. They are being asked to read a literature circle book that they were able to have a voice in choosing. Students will be tracking the theme of their book and finding textual evidence to support the theme. We will also be practicing using the claim, evidence, and reasoning paragraph format. We will do example paragraphs during the Learn portion of the unit and students will then be asked to write their own paragraphs using this format. The roadmap has been attached below for each week.

Science
Students were tasked with working through a disease-spreading Gizmo activity that goes towards the ETS standard, which is a standard that comes up each quarter. The goal is to have at least 1 data point entered for this learning per quarter to ensure they are given adequate opportunities to show their understanding of the process. This was due on Thursday, October 31st.
We also kicked off our first unit of quarter 2 – Cell Division. For this unit, students are working through the processes of mitosis, meiosis, and comparing the two. Due dates for the Cell Division unit are:
- LT #1 tasks and check #1: Tuesday, November 5th
- LT #2 tasks and check #2: Thursday, November 8th
- LT #3 tasks and check #3: Wednesday, November 13th
- Show project conferencing due date: Wednesday, November 20th
- Level 4 due date: Friday, January 10th - End of Quarter 2
Social Studies
Throughout this week, students worked through learn folders focusing on the start of the American Revolution. Topics included; The First and Second Continental Congress, The Battles of Lexington and Concord, and The Declaration of Independence.
To show that they are learning about these topics, the students are creating their own Declaration of Independence on changes they would like to see added to the school. Next week, we will do some class discussions, voting, and electing, to decide which student-made declarations we will present to Mr. Stecher, Mr. Rudie, and Mrs. Kremer in hopes of gaining some new school rules!
