Buckle up, folks! We are crawling our way towards winter break with a jam-packed schedule on Team Legacy!
NDA+ Reminders
We have the NDA+ Winter Interim Assessment next week. On Tuesday, 12/17, learners will take their ELA NDA+ test and on Thursday, 12/19, learners will take the Math NDA+ test. Both assessments will be taken during their respective ELA and math class periods. If you know your learner will be gone on either of these days, please communicate beforehand so we can plan an alternate time/day.
All learners must bring a charged iPad to class on both days to take their assessments.
Friday Fun Day
Team Legacy is planning to have a fun final day before break for our learners. In order to participate in the fun activities, learners need to have NO missing assignments in their core classes (periods 1-4).
Some of the fun activities that we are planning to have as options include:
- Movies
- Wii and Board Games
- Reading
- Active time in the upstairs gym
Because of the limited space available in the upstairs gym and Wii's gaming systems, only learners who have not had any check-it reflection forms/log entries on PowerSchool next week (Monday 12/16 - Friday 12/20) will have the opportunity to sign up for these activities.
As a reminder, we cannot allow any outside snacks or drinks (other than water) to be consumed while here at school, even on this extra fun Friday.
Course Calendar
Course Updates
ELA:
Learners have finished their District Writing Sample. I appreciate how hard they worked and the focus they put into it! Each student will receive feedback on their essay at the beginning of January that I will use to create small groups during quarter 3. These small groups will focus on argumentative writing and the needs of each individual student as we expand their writing skills.
Students will be completing the NDA+ reading assessment on Tuesday, December 17th. Please work with your learner to ensure they are coming to class with a charged iPad, adequate rest, and breakfast eaten. As a school, we are focusing on growth throughout the year, and this assessment will help us determine our growth.
Next week, students are finishing the Learn Folder. Students will need to have their books and their final book circle assignments completed when they enter the classroom on Thursday, December 19th. They should also be completing their Theme Text Evidence assignment as well. This assignment can either be completed on blue paper or on their iPad. Students are to have 10 quotes and reasonings to support the themes of their book. Students who have any other missing assignments from the Learn Folder are aware of these and need to have them completed next week as well. We will be completing two show assignments (a 4 paragraph essay, and a short research project) when students return from winter break. The Learn folder will support their completion of these two assignments.
Math:
Learners are taking their Chapter 4 test on Wednesday, 12/18. We will be doing an in-class review activity on Tuesday and an additional review packet will be given to all learners on Monday, 12/16. The answer key for the review packet will be posted on Schoology and in the classroom.
If you know your learner will not be here on Wednesday of next week, please reach out and we can plan an alternative day for their test.
Social Studies:
Next week, students will wrap up presenting their projects on the Constitution! We have been working hard exploring, describing, and summarizing the three main parts of the Constitution: the preamble, the articles, and the Bill of Rights.
After this, we will begin discussing Federalists and Anti-Federalists in greater depth. This will just be a short intro lesson, as winter break/Friday fun day, takes priority! 😀
Science:
Students will begin work on our Environmental & Genetic Factors and DNA Mutations with learning target #1 tasks and check #1 due on Friday. December 20th. We will be working through some of the items together in class so I am not concerned with students being ready for the break with no homework!
