Welcome to school, Team Legacy families!
Here is what to expect in our 7th-grade core classes through next week:
ELA:
Students have started working on their Show Folders. Both assignments will be due Friday, January 10th. All directions and necessary documents can be found in Schoology in their Unit 2 Show folder. The two assignments are:
Book Issue Choice Board – students will choose a topic from their literature circle book and research information surrounding this topic. They will choose one project from the Choice Board to complete using the information they have learned. The project must include a definition of the topic, 5 facts about the topic, pictures, and two credible sources.
4 Paragraph Essay – students will use the evidence they have collected from their literature circle books to write a 4 paragraph essay on two themes of their book. The essay needs to include an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion paragraph. The body paragraphs will follow the claim, evidence, reasoning, evidence, reasoning format we have been working on together.

Section 1 Quiz |
On Wednesday, January 8th, learners will take their final quiz for the quarter on finding the area and circumference of circles. In class, we practice this skill as a whole group at the start of each period leading up to this quiz.
Social Studies:
In Social Studies, we just finished up our Government Foundation Unit. Today, Jan 2nd, we took a mini-unit quiz (following a very heavy post-break review game 😊 ) that highlighted our main learning targets: why did the articles of confederation fail, what was discussed at the constitutional convention, and what is the difference between federalists and anti-federalists. Moving forward, we will connect what we learned in this unit to our next type of government.
Next week, we will explore tribal, state, and federal governments. What do they look like, what do each one do, and how are they different? This will be a quick one-week unit. There will be a super-short, easy-peasy show project due next Friday to wrap up quarter 2!
Science:
Students have started working on learning target #2 materials for our current unit, which entails taking a closer look at DNA mutations due to environmental and genetic factors. The learning tasks for this and check #2 are due at the end of class on Monday, January 6th. We will then work through designing and writing a 4-paragraph Claim-Evidence-Reasoning (CER) essay as the show project for this unit. Students will be asked to have their graphic organizers done by Wednesday, January 8th, and have their final essays submitted via Schoology by the end of the day on Friday, January 10th.
The next unit following the end of quarter 2 will be Natural vs. Artificial Selection with due dates TBD.
